How to clean Halo Fabrics
These straightforward cleaning suggestions are designed to assist you in tackling some of the most stubborn and frequent household stains, including those caused by coffee, red wine, makeup, shoe polish, and many types of ink.
1. Spot cleaning
Thanks to Halo's built-in stain resistance, most stains can be easily removed even if the fabric hasn't had a treatment applied. Act swiftly to address spills and stains. Begin by gently removing any debris or dabbing away liquids from the surface. This will prevent the stain setting in.
2. Fabrics Treated with Liquid Repellent
Every Halo fabric is meticulously crafted to meet specific requirements and undergoes rigorous testing for colour retention, durability, built-in stain resistance, and safety*. In addition to this, Halo fabrics can also be treated. They are compatible with third-party retail fabric protection such as OnGuard and other warranty programs. These programs further bolster the fabric’s defence against liquid stains by creating a spill-repellent surface and/or offering warranties to protect against accidental damage. Stains and spills can be easily removed by the use of an absorbent cloth to draw off excess liquid.
3. Handling Stains on Textured Fabrics
You can eliminate water-based pen marks* with the use of detergent-based spot cleaners. When dealing with textured fabrics, it's advisable to first apply the spot cleaner to a clean cloth, rather than directly onto the fabric. This approach helps to avoid the embedding of stains into the fabric's textures or patterns.
4. Non-Oil based stains
Opt for warm water and soaps free from optical brighteners, such as Velvet Soap, Lux Flakes, or Softly. Create a mixture with a small quantity of soap and warm water, then gently rub it onto the stain. Use a clean towel to blot it dry. Next, apply cold water and blot once more. To avoid ring formation, dry the area swiftly with a hairdryer, moving from the centre of the stain outward. For optimal outcomes, it's advisable to clean entire fabric panels using this method.
*Oil based stains: Following the same directions as above, apply a proprietary brand solvent based cleaner and try to clean in panels rather than spot cleaning. One trade secret is to spot clean oil based biro marks with the application of Glen 20.
Halo General Care
Vacuum Regularly
Dust is settling daily on your furniture pieces and is highly visible on coffee tables and polished surfaces, it goes unnoticed on upholstered furniture. Accumulated dust and grit work their way into fibres and act like miniature ‘grinders’ which ultimately lead to a breakdown of even the strongest fabrics. Take care to vacuum regularly (weekly) using low suction, to significantly extend the life of your furniture.
Pilling Removal
It is difficult to avoid all types of pilling. If it does occur,
pilling can be successfully removed with a battery-operated pilling tool available at most haberdashery stores.
Avoid Moisture Build Up
When arranging your furniture, take care to avoid touching the external walls or radiators. This prevents moisture build-up and/or scorching damage.
Minimise Fading
We recommend placing upholstered pieces where they will not be exposed to direct sunlight. Constant exposure to daylight over extended periods without window coverings may cause long term fading. Also, if you can, rotate reversible cushions regularly to extend the life of your seating.
*Warwick Fabrics suggests spot tests, it is a good idea to test all your cleaning products on a hidden part of the furniture to ensure fabric and colour are not affected. Please note our spot cleaning advice is offered in good faith and is not a guarantee that all stains will be completely removed.
